Hello Team!
What an awesome race we had at Laguna Hills! You guys rocked the course and made awesome times despite the course being difficult and it being so hot!
This is a very long email, please read it all the way through!
A few housekeeping details:
We have changes to the September calendar, please make sure to print out a new one for yourself and note that we will not be practicing at Dixon Lake any longer.
TRASH! Please Please Please pick up your trash during and after the meet. It is very discouraging for the coaches to have to pick up trash at the end of the meet. Thank you to those who helped pick up trash!
Lost and found: Among the trash were many items left. Please see coach Tye for your items. You are responsible to grab all of your belongings before you leave the race. It is not the coach's responsibility to carry out all the items left. Thank you!!
AND... The Golden Shoe!!!
I can't believe we haven't been having the Golden Shoe award. One of our Captains, Katie, is getting us back on track with the shoe. As soon as we get it we will start that up again. Thank you Katie and all who are helping with this!

We get a bus to Woodbridge!
You will be dismissed at 12:30 from school and you will quietly get changed into your uniform and meet at the bus. Bus location to be determined, but may be right in front of the school. We will load up all the tents, coolers and stuff and coaches and athletes onto the bus. Parents can ride as room permits, (I think.)
It's going to be a very long day! Bring extra water, a large lunch, bring extra food, bring money for food, bring homework. Bring a blanket or towel to sit on. Bring warm clothes, we will be there after dark, returning late. Last time we were home by 11PM. This is the favorite race of the season and I know you will have a great time. Most will PR!
Lori will pack sandwiches for the team to help with extra food for dinner time or after your race.
PLEASE CAREFULLY READ BELOW THE EMAIL SENT TO Coach Tye ABOUT WOODBRIDGE! There is a lot of information for athletes and parents too! Any notes made by a coach will be in red.
Thank you for choosing the 2021 Woodbridge CC Classic sponsored by ASICS for your team. We are excited to be providing an opportunity for your athletes to experience a championship-level atmosphere, meet and compete against runners from so many different regions of our Country and State. The competition will be awesome, your kids will have a crazy fast time. Please review the topics covered in past emails and review the New Notes on the meet.
As always, we appreciate you for sharing/communicating these notes with your coaches, athletes, the team’s booster chairs and especially the team families. The more everyone knows, the more fun and less stress .
*** NOTE: A couple of important updates this year from SilverLakes. Cal Fire will be checking every single tent to make sure it has the fire retardant seal. If tents are customized, the manufacturer should be able to provide this. If it doesn’t have this seal, your team can’t put it up. Also,
*** NOTE: SilverLakes is cashless due to Covid considerations. Both the parking is cashless and also the restaurant. Food trucks will be able to take cash but we want to encourage as many people as possible to be cashless.
*** NOTE: We are committed to following the guidance form the state and local health care agencies. Masks are not required for athletes and spectators but we strongly recommend that everyone practices the guidance that will enable us to stage a safe event for our participants, schools and local communities. Please wear masks when you are not competing.
*** NOTE: For Travel and Parking Information please click: http://gvarvas.com/ parking/. <-----Please read this parking link! There is a charge for parking and a charge for spectators who walk in, and no pets!
3. Rated/sweepstakes entries will are posted at www.gvarvas.com/ sweepstakes-and-rated-entries- list. These entries will be adjusted on a daily basis
4. Varsity (limited to top 7 runners). You do not have to run 7 kids in varsity (if they are not of that level) to have the remaining athletes in the lower-level races (frosh, soph, Jr. etc. etc.). You do not need to declare races for your runners ahead of time. NO SPIKES.
5. Novice: Any boy or girl that has a PR of 24:00 minutes or slower should be placed in the NOVICE race. They will have a better experience, and this will help reduce the crowding in the scoring races. No metals. Many of our team will run in the novice race!
6. Individual and Team Awards:
a. Medals to the first 100 individual finishers in each race (except the Novice though) in the finish chute.
b. Top six (6) teams in each race will receive seven (7) patches for their runners at the awards area.
7. Check in: In the “Festival” area (flag poles). Coaches only please. Have your entry fees ready and give the official and common school names to our volunteers. Check the bibs to assure they are your school’s.
8. Course map http://gvarvas.com/course- map/
When looking at the map, we will aim to set up in section 5, or as near to 5 as possible (as long as space permits)
9. Clerk of the course will be in parking lot B (right behind the Starting line). 15 min. prior to the race
10. Additional bibs can be purchased at the meet ($ 15) but prior to 15 min. of the 1st race. Name Changes on existing bibs ($5).
11. Team Set Up: So that your group will be able to move around freely during the races, set up in fields 5 & 6 or the “Festival” area (by the Flag poles). If these areas fill up, then setup in 7 & 8 (restricted movement during races though). Buses unload in lot “C” (next to the finish area) and it’s a short walk to 5 & 6
12. Bibs: We will be using the throw-away “chip-in-the bib” bibs. Please impress on your runners:
a. The chip is to be worn at about the belly button height and not chest height otherwise, it might not be read by the antennas (3 pins are enough, you supply). FinishLynx and Identilynx cameras are the backups for chips not-read
b. Safety pins create a hazard to the athletes using these fields for games. Please instruct your athletes to leave the pins on the uniforms (they can use again) instead of dropping them to the ground. Big problem
c. Runners’ forearms cover up the bib number if they stop their watches at the finish line. If their chip is not read, runner id is not possible using the cameras. Please ask them to stop their watches after the mats.
13. Amenities: Gatorade to all finisher at the end of the chute; food trucks, gourmet fast food stand; footwear and apparel sales by ASICS; water on the course; medical trainers at 3 locations (see map)
