Hi Team!
What a great week we had! Boys and girls have a huge lead in points for the league so far. For those that don't get scoring still, the top six in each event scores for the team. 1st place is 10pt, 2nd is 8pt, 3rd is 6pt, 4th is 4pt, 5th is 2pt, and 6th is 1pt. The team with the most points combined between the two league meets is the league champion. Boys runner up was Army Navy at 118pts, we scored 177pts. Girls runner up was Calvin at 85pts, we scored 196pts. Great job to everyone that contributed with your hard work! We had some more records beat as well. Jack dropped his holding record in the 110m hurdles, now at 16.04. The boys 4x800m team we debuted took the record by 17 seconds from last year, now at 9:15.54.
We also absolutely crushed on Friday! Ladies first, we have Bella coming in hot with a PR and record for the 1600 at 5:22.87. Kelsi also dropped her already impressive record now at an 11:45.62 in the 3200m. Marco beat the 2017 400m record with an astonishing 51.11. Gunner destroyed the 2021 record for the 2 mile, (set by a student that went on to the Paralympics mind you), with a remarkable time of 9:45.77. Jack beat his record in the 300m hurdles again, dropping under 42 seconds at 41.95 to continue his reign. Last but not least the boys 4x400m team once again took the record with an insane 3 second drop, now locked in at 3:37.75.
Shoutout to the countless PRs in everyone else's events between both days too, you are all amazing!
Conference Finals and CIF:
Before I get into this week's events I'd like to make sure everyone understands how moving forward works. You must have raced 3 league meets to make finals, you must have raced 5 races total this season to get into CIF. Talk to me if you are not sure if you qualify.
To get into the Coastal Conference Finals you need to maintain the top 18 in your event between both leagues. So for every event both our league, Pacific League, and the Coastal League will put in their top 3 athletes. The top 18 marks/times from that list will then be taken to race next Thursday. They also will have an alternate list as well that includes athletes #19-23.
They have changed a couple things for prelims and finals this year. To go onto CIF-Prelims you need to be the top athlete for your event at conference finals in our league. You also can get in if you are close enough to the qualifying front runner as an "at large athlete". You will automatically make it if you meet the auto qualify marks. At prelims you will race all Division 3, and the top 2 athletes per event overall will be taken to CIF-Finals, along with any auto-qualifiers.
Many of you need to start deciding which events will be your main goal to make it farther into finals. This may mean sacrificing another event for you so you can focus all your efforts into one or two, in order to be more competitive. Please talk to me if you need help narrowing in on a goal and we can get a plan together.
Pacific League Meet #6:
I tried to match last week's entries pretty closely. Please double check that I correctly entered you into what you'd like to focus on. Especially if you did not run last week, or modified last week to focus on the Friday Invite.
Location is looking like San Pasqual High School again. Same procedure as last week will be in place for entry and arrival. Release will be 2:15 to help with any traffic.
We will be doing a group senior night with the league before the meet starts to recognize all the seniors. This is usually done before the coaches meeting at 3:15 so it doesn't interfere with the schedule. I am going to contest for it to be moved to after the coaches meeting because spectators were not allowed in until 3:30. I will try to make the coaches meeting at 3:15 instead so there's time to do it.
Dick Wilkins Frosh/Soph Invite:
It is a freshman/sophomore only race if you did not find out from its name. They take the top 18 for each event only, so it is very competitive. They call it the "Meet of Future Champions" so be proud if you're in it! There is an open section the first half and an invitational portion after. We qualified in both so pay attention to times.
There was not a time schedule on athletic.net, so I went off the times on the entries sheet they sent me. Looks like they have it set up for 10am-9pm for the whole thing.
This race is at Del Norte HS. Tickets will be required to get in. You can buy them on GoFan.
