Hello Track Family!
Hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another great week. I saw a lot of you breaking through those physical barriers last week! Remember, it takes two full weeks to get into shape. Things should be getting better for you going forward as your bodies transition into a maintenance mode.
Tony Pepperoni this Thursday!
You all have been crushing it and have earned some carb loading! We'll meet at Tony Pepperoni on Grand Ave after practice on Thursday. Anyone that would like to come is invited. Families, siblings, and friends are welcome!
Picture Day Moved (sorry to all my planner people)
We have an amazing and huge team! With that we are needing to wait for some more uniforms to arrive so everyone has one. I'm expecting them this week or early next week, so I will have to update distribution day when I find out. Picture day will be on March 14th. This gives us more time than trying to cram a picture day in with our first meets next week.
Spikes Needed Going Forward
Our first meet is next week! We will be working on block starts more this week so please bring your spikes to practice. We do have a few extra pairs of spikes in the storage container if anyone needs to use them. If you are needing to buy spikes and don't know what to get, think of what events you are doing. Spikes are going to be mainly split up by sprinters and distance runners. If you don't plan on running more than the 400m, get sprinter spikes. If you plan on racing mainly over 400m, get distance spikes. The main difference is the padding in the heel, sprinters never strike their heels in a race. If you are doing jumps I'd go with sprinter spikes. If you do distance and want to jump, your spikes are fine to use. You all will need to get needles for your spikes. The proper spikes are a 3/16" needle. If you have more questions on spikes, ask a coach or reach out to me.
Meets/Events
I need to know by Thursday if you want to race in the Don Jones Invitational so I can enter you this weekend and make sure we are paid up correctly.
I will bring a sheet to practice tomorrow and have each of you write what events you would like to do in our first meets. This way you get a say in what events I put you in and we can start to see where we are at in scoring strength as a team. If you don't tell me what events you'd like to do, your events will be chosen for you.
Relay teams will be based on the four fastest athletes for each event. If there's a large interest in relays, we can run more than one team each. There is the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800. We will be working on handoffs this week for anyone interested. The 4x100 is the most important handoff to learn if you are doing the relay.
Here is the March calendar link.
