Hello Ladies:
Another fun filled week of Varsity Tennis & Girl’s Team bonding! Thank you Espinosa’s for opening up your home for the girl’s to exhale and have good camaraderie off courts:) Our League record thus far is 6 - 0 and Overall is 11 - 2. Congratulations on your ongoing winning streaks.
This next week we have 5 matches in a row. All of you should be used to playing and have gotten the nerves out. I’d like to see you all take this week to another level (Win or Lose). This is the week to start. The theme is to GROW our tennis skills/strategy, exercise our mental fitness & improve your finesse shots. I=CC: Intensity = Confidence & Consistency. The more intensity/focus mentally you are, the confidence appears then consistency happens. Believe this mantra and you will take your game to another level. Even if you lose a point or game, keep believing in this equation. We would rather see you grow than being complacent.
For Doubles, this means, “BASELINE” Players, start inching in to service line & closing the net (especially on deep balls) and “NET" players staggered back a few steps behind service line so you can get to the overheads easier instead of moving backwards to get the overheads. Implement Australian positions, Poaching, FAKE Poaching & go for easy “GREEN” balls by angling with a nice volley pose. We are seeing too many errors by over hitting or hitting into the net. Let’s decrease unforced errors because come playoff season, we WILL be playing higher level teams and by getting into the I = CC habit you will be playing more efficiently with less exertion of energy and will make less errors.
As you can see below, we are inching up in the ranks in D2. If we clinch the Title of ”LEAGUE CHAMPS” we will have HOME court advantage during CIF TEAM PLAYOFF. If our opponents are ranked higher and ARE NOT Champs in their League, we have the Home court ADVANTAGE:) That is a HUGE Plus! Caimans we know you love challenges. We challenge you to grow and take your game to the next level:)

Pick “TWO” Players of the Week goes to: Sydney Swartz & Cassi Hoffpauir
These two “dynamic” duo has been playing off/on during this season and last. When they do match up together, it’s like fitting in like old gloves. They know each other’s strength and weaknesses and they power through what they know works best. Sydney is our strongest net player on the team. She feels at “home” at the net while Cassi feels ultra comfortable at base line. They usually have the 1 - 2 punch winning combination by Cassi’s deep top spin balls - setting up Sydney for a nice finesse put away at net. Sydney & Cassi are a nice 1 up 1 back partnership. Cassi has been perfecting her high top spin balls with immense depth and consistency. The opponents only option at most times returns back just over the net for Sydney’s easy finesse angle or overhead put away. This duo played the last 2 set against SDJA with intensity which improved their confidence and resulted in consistency. Beautifully played against SDJA ladies! Exciting to watch! Congratulations Cassi & Sydney in being this week’s “PICK TWO” Players of the week!
