Oct 8 Football Newsletter: The “Bye Week” Edition

 

Hey Football Family,

 

This week in football: Focus

 

Focus is a word that gets tossed around a lot in the world of sports.  It can mean a number of things.

 

Example 1: When a coach says “focus”, they are often saying, “I need you to listen to what I am saying despite all the distractions going on around us and go do it.”

 

Example 2: When it is nearing the end of the quarter and grades are coming due, mom and dad say, “You need to focus on your schoolwork.”  Why?  Because as a high school student there are constant distractions–things that are pulling your attention away from something that is a priority.

 

Example 3:  When you look at something through any scope–microscope or telescope–you have to work the lenses to bring things into focus…you have to work the lenses to get a clear perspective of what is right in front of your eyes; things either really big or really small.

 

So, focus…

 

This week is our Bye Week and the plan is to have a light week–physically.  This is your time to sharpen your skills and prepare for our last home game of the season.

 

So, focus…

 

Put things in the right perspective.  For you seniors, one day soon you will put on your helmet and pads for the last time and your days of playing high school football will be behind you.  Each practice, each game…may be your last.

 

For you underclassmen, bring an effort and attitude that you will look back on as a senior and be able to remember it with pride.

 

Don’t let a single moment at practice become a lost opportunity.

 

So, focus…

Eat.  Sleep.  Football.
