Hello Football Family,
Monday we begin our Summer Program: weight room and field work. Here are some details for our new and incoming families:
For the Weight Room, you will want to drop your athlete off at the back gate nearest the weight room as the school’s front entrance will not be open; that gate is located on Juniper between Pennsylvania and Valley Pkwy. It is right across the street from the Joor Muffler statue. Here is a link for directions to the school, just in case it is your first time to the Studio Campus.
Water fountains will be available; please bring your own reusable water bottle/hydro.
All athletes will leave their personal items outside under the solar shade coverings.
The Weight Room will close promptly at 930a (Monday and Friday) and 530p (Wednesdays).
For Field Workouts, Hidden Valley MS is located at 2700 Reed Rd, Escondido.
It is imperative that all athletes bring plenty of water to the field. Each athlete should be equipped with cleats as we will be working out on the grass and good footing is important for avoiding soft tissue injuries.
Finally, here is the Parent Spirit Pack Shop just for you; this shop is for parents and other supporters and will be open until Monday, June 6th.
Please reach out if you have any questions at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Coach Josiah

A letter to the Young Men…
“Why do we work out during the summer?”
It is the question that every football coach is asked.
The simple answer is that football is unlike any other sport. Does it make football the superior sport? The football coach in me, of course, would tell you “Yes!” The philosopher side of me would tell you this, “It just makes it different.”
Other sports don’t play with the same level of equipment weight: Helmet, shoulder pads, etc. Other sports don’t . Other sports don’t experience the same level of full speed collision, contact, and physicality that we endure. Other sports don’t have 11 positions for each of the 4 phases of the game (offense, defense, kicking, and receiving) that has its own unique keys, reads, and assignments that have to work in concert to be effective.
Therefore, we require more time to teach and train athletes.
In the weight room, we are getting ahead of injuries by getting the body strong and physically fit.
On the field, positional training teaches the boys where to move on the field and how they get there. Understanding our keys, reads, and assignments take numerous reps before it becomes second nature; this is “why” behind the where to be and how to get there.
Not to mention that coming heat. It is like a storm that we see coming from miles away and we need to prepare for it. How do we prepare for it? By acclimating to training in a steady rise in temperature through the summer. That is until a long lost relative leaves me an inheritance that will fund a climate controlled stadium/training facility in the heart of Escondido.
So, join us for the grind this summer in the weight room and out on the field! When the heat comes and we put on the pads, you’ll be glad you did. It doesn’t mean that you won’t feel the heat, it means that you’ll be prepared for opportunities for success out on the field despite trying circumstances.
One day, you’ll look back on these times and remember that success during trying and hard times is born out of hard work and preparation.
See you out on the field!
