Hello Football Family,
(If you’ve kept up with the Weekly Football Newsletter, feel free to skip to the final section of this week’s Newsletter.)
For the Weight Room, you will want to drop your athlete off at the back gate nearest the weight room as the school’s front entrance will not be open; that gate is located on Juniper between Pennsylvania and Valley Pkwy. It is right across the street from the Joor Muffler statue. Here is a link for directions to the school, just in case it is your first time to the Studio Campus.
Water fountains will be available; please bring your own reusable water bottle/hydro.
All athletes will leave their personal items outside under the solar shade coverings.
The Weight Room will close promptly at 930a (Monday and Friday) and 530p (Wednesdays).
For Field Workouts, Hidden Valley MS is located at 2700 Reed Rd, Escondido.
It is imperative that all athletes bring plenty of water to the field. Each athlete should be equipped with cleats as we will be working out on the grass and good footing is important for avoiding soft tissue injuries.
Please reach out if you have any questions at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Coach Josiah

Since losing my dad to cancer just over four years ago, Father’s Day has consistently been a rollercoaster.
I always try to avoid sleeping as if in some way staying up all night will keep Father’s Day from coming. Inevitably I lose the battle and reluctantly fall asleep.
In the morning, I check my phone to see if I might have slept right through the day and made it to Monday, but I never do. Instead, I am greeted by a flood of memories. Most of those memories bring me to tears or put an unexpected smile on my face.
My mom told me that when I moved to Chicago for college that my dad slept in my bed from time to time because he missed me.
I’ll never forget Senior year and walking out to the parking lot after practice and there was my dad waiting for me with the keys to a 1994 Forest Green Ford F-150. It wasn’t fancy or anything, just a truck…just like his.
In middle school, my dad and I spent a lot of time in his truck driving to and from practice, to games, and to the High School Football Game of the Week according to the North County Times. The lessons learned while driving around are too many to account for here…
As a little kid, it was those summers we spent down at Mission Bay. Dad was a runner and I tried my best to keep up with him on my FisherPrice “Red Lightning” bike, training wheels included. Six miles from the Mission Bay Visitor’s Center around Fiesta Island and back. We didn’t say a whole lot, but you can learn a lot about a person by just being alongside them for a long run.
By the afternoon, most of the tears are gone. Just the smile remains. Then for a few hours that seem to fly by and last forever at the same time…joy. Simple joy born out of the gratitude for all the memories.
Tomorrow will come and I’m sad to be leaving Father’s Day…but I feel stronger and more confident having remembered who helped to shape and mold me into the man I am today.
My pops wasn’t perfect, but he was the perfect dad for me.
There are many things I remember and many things I have forgotten, but I will never forget that feeling of my dad supporting me, encouraging me, and taking the time to have real conversations with me.
May all you dads out there take the time to support, encourage, and have deep conversations with your sons. Not just today or for this football season, but throughout life.
